It may make for good fodder on slacker Monday.

Wouldn't cel phones trip the metal detector?

Just have everyone file out, and check all the cel phones you find, until the guilty party is discovered. Then if yer still feeling mean, clear the courtroom. But corporal punishment has no place in a court of law. Fairness, justice, & all that.

It seems to me that there should have been a more simple way  to handle it. How about check all phones, they have a log. I would be willing to bet this would have cost us taxpayes a lot less money.

Can I point out, though, that while cell phones may be an annoyance ... according to the story, they were made legal in courtrooms just recently. If they're legal (although annoying) then what does it matter who's phone it was?

Seems like a simple "oops, my bad" may have been justified here by the offending party, but that's they most they should have done.

I want to see what these people with charged/held under. And might they not all have a great case for wrongful arrest?

More like 70-some individual 'wrongful arrest' suits. Costly mistakes.

If cel phones are to be allowed in court, they should have to be turned off completely during proceedings. There's no reason to be chatting in court.
