We have a great example in our own backyard, the mighty Niagara. Running water has been long seen as possessing supernatural powers, some believing it creates a magical barrier evil cannot cross. Thus you can escape from a witch by leaping a stream. Executed criminals were buried beneath running water to prevent their ghosts from walking the earth. Immersion in running water supposedly cures warts, sciatica, thrush and a host of other ailments.
Anyone have a favorite superstition?
