It looks like a lot of countries are coming to their senses this week. Canada legalized gay marriage on Tuesday, today Spain followed suit, plus a number of other countries in the EU are considering similar proposals. If only the US would grow up and open their minds...

Well thanks for beating me to it Scott, I love to point that out. But really, personal opinions aside, why was this country founded? I always thought that our founding fathers wanted a democracy free of religious interference. They didn't want the "government" dictating what they believe and where they should do it. Now fast forward a few hundred years and our government makes these types of decisions based on how they interpret the bible. We have become the morals police. It shouldn't matter if our politicians are for or against this issue. It should come down to personal freedom of choice.

nothing good will come to these counties as a result of their mistake , read below starting at 18;22 through the end , it is only about 10 verses -   the translation i am familiar with with says "the land will spew you out "    .... this one says "vomit "   close enough .

my mind is open enough already , enough spewing . the creator says no , good enough for me , no it is .

the good stuff begins in chapter 20 .  also leviticus .

why on earth should the "normal" people endure the punishments so the gays can be gay ?  there is no good reason at all .

Regardless of what anyone follows, I don't believe it is our final judgment that should be at issue. If I'm wrong please show me. I always thought that a higher power made that final judgment. How does that go: judge not let ye be judged.

Nice to see you've already let the invisible man who lives in the sky make up your mind for you. Me, I make up my own mind. Your mind doesn't sound very open at all.

Ya know what the trouble with normal people is? They're normal...C'mon, who can define what a normal person is? It's practically a rhetorical question. Gay people are not going to affect you 'normal' people one bit.

Laura Schlesinger is a US radio personality (I do not listen to her, I listen only to Dialog with Scott Leffler), who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. On her radio show recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination, according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.

The following response was an open letter to Dr. Laura. - Jim H.

******************************************

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22
clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual
uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most
women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord -
Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a
lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there
'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to
admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play touch football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as
does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend).
He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary for us to go to the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16.

Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with
their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

OK got it, sundays and mondays don't work for you. Never mix rocks and the gloves have to be 100% cotton. I'll try to remember all of that.

do you think you can judge me ? or that i can judge you ?  no to both questions .

if you read leviticus you will see certain things are not to be a allowed ever , punishments are to be delivered to the society that condones certain behaviors .  it is not up to me ,i did not write the laws ,  i did not judge anyone , i will not be the one to punish the law breakers  .

everyone will be punished or rewarded based on their choices in life . you have read the law , make your own choice .   we are all free to choose our own paths , that is the way it works .

look in dueteronomy 4;1,2

4:1 And now, O Israel, hearken unto the statutes and unto the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, giveth you.

4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

keep on reading the text to see what happens if the above is not followed and remember that the above was delivered to the israelis before their people were scattered across the earth and their country was destroyed and handed over to their enemies , all because the israelis failed to follow the law .        do you think we are any better than they ? they were / are the "chosen people"  .

"he who does not learn from his mistakes is doomed to repeat them ..."

Mike,

My point was that a thorough read of Leviticus will show that there are an abundance of "rules" in that book that almost no-one follows these days. And if you're a good Christian, there isn't a degree of sin. Sin in sin. Period. If you're using Leviticus, you've got to use all of it. And I'm not casting stones.

Mike - you also forgot to ask for a love offering.

<you have read the law , make your own choice .   we are all free to choose our own paths , that is the way it works. >

Unfortunately, that is not the case at all. Gay people are not free to choose their own path if it involves adoption, visitation when sick, financial or any other advantage that "hetero" married people enjoy.

The federal act against gay marriage was called something like "The Defense of Marriage Act". Regardless of one's religious beliefs, the questions need to be asked, "Is your marriage threatened by gay people marrying?" and "Why are you imposing your religious beliefs on everyone else?"

what is a "love offering" ?

gays have the choice to live as gays or not .  i feel  no obligation to help them to live as gays .

countries ,cities , states etc  have been destroyed because they allowed gays to flaunt the laws of the creator - i do not wish to see our society destroyed for the same reason .   what is the benefit to our society ?

anger the creator and risk destruction like sodom and gammorah or like the residents of israel before moses  , so that we can have gay people feel special ?

so i must choose between angering gays or angering the creator ? easy choice for me .       i dont judge them ,but i wont accept the wrath of the creator so that the gays can be gay .      they make their choices , i make mine .

Scott, Jim, nit wit (love the name) and PT, it looks like we are all saying the same thing. I going out on a limb by saying I don't think that has ever happened. We must be drinking the water.

Mike this reads like you are passing judgement to me.

"why on earth should the "normal" people endure the punishments so the gays can be gay ?  there is no good reason at all ."

What makes someone normal? You are crossing into the land of the self righteous my friend.

Mike, have you tried not being homophobic?

Aww boy. I could post for 3 hours on this, but I'll try to briefly sum up.

1. Gay rights are not a religious issue. I don't care what your religion tells you, because it doesn't apply here. Stop quoting the bible. Just because you believe in something, doesn't mean it's right for everyone.

2. If marriage is threatened by anyone, it's heterosexual, 'traditional' couples. They're the ones ruining things for everyone.

3. Gays are not interested in 'marriages' per se, but a civil union which would grant them the same rights as hetero couples enjoy. Things like health insurance for your partner, tax benefits, power of attorney, that kind of thing. They're not concerned with all the nonsense the religious zealots spew.

As long as they declare who is the bitch & who is the butch when they move into the neighborhood I’m cool.

I'd hate to invite the wrong one over for poker night.

How embarrassing would that be?

I see the war on Christianity continues to escalate. Let's keep the playing field level shall we MC?  Marriage is a religious matter, because it's a sacred instituion based on religious beliefs.  Gay & lesbian unions will only serve to weaken the institution of marriage and further dilute the sanctity associated with it. I won't quote the Bible here, because I don't see the need, but it does refer specifically to homosexuality as an 'abomination.'

Anon,

Oddly, I think your post actually supports MC here. "Marriage" IS a religious issue. I agree. And just as religion has no place in government, goverment also has no place in religion. So the state should not deny a marriage licence ... or for that matter have any licensing to do (are the confirming that God bonds these people in holy matrimony?). In other words, if a church wants to marry two men ... or two women ... or a man and his pygmy horse ... what role should government have? None. Government stuck its nose in this and gave special privelidges and benefits to married people. Homosexuals who aren't married ... and can't marry ... are being discriminated against when government won't extend those benefits. IMHO.

To the people quoting scripture:

Preach all you want about homosexuality in the bible. If you're picking & choosing the parts you want then stop, I don't want to hear it. There are no gray areas in the bible. A sin is a sin.

I'd be surprised if a man of the cloth followed, Leviticus for example to the degree at which most people harp the gay is bad parts. Which, I happen to believe are the only parts most of them know off the top of their heads.

As for religion & marriage, a JP , A judge or even the Mayor of a city can marry someone. No God is involved with that. While marriage may have been a word out of the bible, it is clearly a legal term in the U.S. today.  I can't recall the last time the church stepped in when a marriage went sour & she wants half.

Look at Common Law Marriage's. The Word Marriage has evolved to more than it's original intent. Many words have over the years.

What if 2 homosexuals are scientologists or worship the Greek gods for that matter? Is it a Christians place to tell them what to do or refuse to acknowledge they are husband & wife because they worship a 6 armed goddess or a giant elephant? Do you impose your religious beliefs on them? Perhaps a crusade is in order to smite the infidels?

When someone accepts a position in a public office then they need to put religion behind them because ALL religons are biased one way or the other.

Ever hear a politician talk about god? I hate that crap.

Organized religion is nothing more than a club running a 24/7 membership drive. some of them are worse than personal trainer's at the BAC trying to get you to sign up your friends.

When passing a law religion shouldn't even be considered.

But when people protest a law while waving their bibles it makes you wonder if they’re really thinking about what’s best for country or what’s best for them.
