Gary M. Hayes for Niagara County Sheriff

Do any Forum members have an opinion on this candidate? Taxpayer groups and others concerned with the fiscal soundness of Niagara County should be very interested in this year's race for Sheriff.

This Forum is free, last I checked. The Hayes web site was created "gratis" by a supporter of the Hayes candidacy. It costs $4.95 per month to host this site on Yahoo.

However, if you like it, you could chip in to register Gary_Hayes_for_Sheriff.com.

One way or another, it's going to be a hot time come September primaries.

Gary Hayes is a Democrat running against Beilein in the Sept. primary. There is a declared Republican who is undoubtedly backed by Maziarz, but it is not Hayes.

Not that I'm a fan of Senator George, but I think he is being given to much credit. I have to admit he looked like a kid in daddy's suit walking next to Mayor Mike yesterday in the parade. Funny thing, we don't live in the city anymore but are still under the not so watchful eye of Senator George. But it was Mayor Mike who stopped to talk with us (probable grateful we moved), Senator George stood off to the side looking away. Makes me think he doesn't want my vote.

JS you must be pulling my leg! Mr Sacco a real live in the type DEC man. No that just couldn't be, surly he would have identified himself by now to clear up some of the environmental questions on this forum. Playing possum is not nice at all.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that neither candidate is being backed by Maziarz ... but if one WERE, it would be more likely to be Hayes.

I HAVE JUST COMPLETED READING THE "CLAIMS MANAGEMENT REPORT" FILED BY NUMEROUS COMPLAINANTS AGAINST THE NIAG. CTY. SHERIFF'S DEPT. DATED FROM 1/94 TO 2/05.....THE TOTAL LOSS OF OVER 1 MILLION DOLLARS + ATTY'S. DISBURSEMENTS FEES FOR JUDGEMENTS AND CLAIMS.....MANY CLAIMS ARE STILL OPENED AND PENDING AS TO THE LAWSUITS FILED AND THE COSTS ARE RISING.

WE, THE TAXPAYERS WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE COSTS DUE TO THE IMCOMPETENCE AND LACK OF ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP OF SHERIFF TOM BEILEIN TO CONTROL SOME OF HIS DEPUTIES "ANAL COMPULSIVE ATTITUDES" TOWARDS THE CONSTITUENCY OF THIS COUNTY. Not backs as in "supports" but backs as in "parent company." And the reason it matters is because the backing of some politicrats means that the individual candidates opinions don't matter so much as the "parent company's." There are many who believe that the good senator is trying to get a hand in every little race imaginable so he can control the whole shabang. That's why some people worry about who backs who. They don't want all the power in the hands of one state senator whom they don't much care for.

Alright, let me jump in on this one. I missed this originally. Just caught it now. If you click the link ... and scroll down and click the other link ... it will take you to a bunch of stories from the now defunct (RIP) Lockport-NY.com web site. Anyone who was familiar with Bob Rooney's old site knows that Tom Beilein could have single-handedly saved the world and Rooney's headline would have read: "Sheriff ignores Niagara County, focuses on non-constituents." Look, there have been enough things that have genuinely gone wrong at NCSD over the years. Junk web sites like Rooney's don't need to come into play.

I'm not going to go through each story and pick things apart, but as a former frequent reader of Mr. Rooney's thoughts, I can assure you, it was not a "news site." It was Bob's opinion from top to bottom ... with only the things he wanted you to hear about. If he liked someone, only the good stuff was written. If he disliked someone, none of the good stuff was written. It was Bob's site and that's his perogative. Personally, I was sad when I heard that the site was shut down due to his health. I always enjoyed reading it ... but it needed to be taken with a grain of salt. As such, I wouldn't use it as a "news index" as Mr. Hayes apparently does on his website. Just as I wouldn't use this site as a news index. We (self included) print the things we want and ignore things we don't want to see. We're not "media" ... just as Bob wasn't. That's not to say that he wasn't 110% right sometimes ... but not an official source either. Does that better explain? Hope so.
