My son will be a senior this year at Newfane.  Unfortunately, his middle school and high school years have been plagued by conflict and controversy due to the actions of staff and administators at Newfane.

He attended some of the same classed as the young girl Mr. Pendrack (spelling?), teacher from the middle school, had inappropriate contact with.  He is also well aware of the case involving Mark Lindsay and the school board, in which there really was no case.  He has read about board member Rick Ruhmel (spelling?) and the alligation facing him.  Now we have another case involving our school and someone who is in a position of power.  How will my son's high school years be remembered?  He is truely embarrassed to say he attends Newfane High School.  I would have to agree.

I moved to Newfane 10 years ago because I had heard good things about the district.  I thought Newfane would be a better choice for my children rather than staying in Lockport.  What has happened over the past 10 years?  The district is no longer in the top 10 nor a high achieving district like Barker.  We pay more in school taxes than neighboring districts.  I can't even begin to discuss the raise that was given to the superintendent.  We as a community should be getting more for our money than front page stories in the newspaper and top billing on the nightly news.  We, and our children, deserve so much better than this.  But then again, we have to take some of the blame as a community for the bad choices made in voting certain people into seats on the board of education.  Members of the community need to take more responsibility when it comes to knowing whom they are voting for.

Taking responsibility for your actions is a common mantra that is preached by the district to our children.  Students have a written Code of Conduct that they are continually reminded of.  Parents are often told to refer to this code when issues arise.  Why not have a code of conduct for staff and administrators?  There is a small section outlining their responsibilites in the code.  I believe it covers one and a half to two pages out of approximately 15.  Perhaps it needs to be revised or at least read by staff and administrators.

People are confronted with temptation all the time.  However, that does not mean we have to act upon those temptations.  I don't care what people do in the privacy of their own homes as long as it is not illegal.  There is a proper time and place for everything.  If a person steps outside the parameters that are set up by the legal system then they need to be held responsible for their actions.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

Has anyone heard about "The Flaming Moes" in Outwater Park? They hang out by the rose garden.The cops have been trying to patrol it more.

What really bothers me too is no matter what members of the board and administration and staff do that is wrong, questionable, or whatever there seems to be a lot of people in the community that will defend the actions of these individuals.

People are strange sometimes in their line of thinking.  They seem to think because certain people are in a position of power that they have some secret knowledge that the rest  of us are lacking.  They just don't seem to "get it" that these are just ordinary people and they are not perfect, they don't know what's best for our kids, community, ect. 

Newfane has too many followers and not enough leaders that have some common sense.  It's just all too political for me.  I thought at one time I had the stomach for this kind of stuff and that maybe I could make a difference by exposing some of the minipulation that occurs in the district but people just don't seem to want to hear it.  They are too content to live in their comfort zone.  So, they find ways in their minds to justify what is wrongly being done in this town.  Not many take the time to look into matters on their own. They just pick and choose the story that they want to believe.

I agree with Nitrogen. Gay is one thing and child molestation another. The park incident demonstrates sexual deviance. Most gay people are not going to participate in this type of activity. The fact that they opt to partake in this act at a public park that is always being watched only adds to the fact that these people are NOT normal and healthy. They want to push the envelope. This is why I would not want them around my children. It has nothing to do with being gay or bi or whatever.

Does exposing himself make him a sexual deviant or an exhibitionist?  What do you call people who have sex in elevators? 

Make no mistake, I don't want him in the district.  I think the thing that bothers me most about it is the fact that he groped this guy.  That's assult. Here is a person put in a position of power.  We tell our kids to respect those types of individuals.  He showed no respect towards the person he groped.  How could anyone have any respect for him now, not that I ever had any to begin with. 

It would be interesting to know what this undercover cop looked like.  Was he some "beefy" looking guy or someone who looked weak and vulnerable, like a middle school student?  Just because he might be gay doesn't make him a pedophile but we don't know for sure do we?  Bottom line is he toughed someone in an inappropriate manner. 

I don't know why we, as a society, hold certain positions to a higher standard of behavior.  I think that line of thinking gives those in such positions a false sence of power.  For example, Bill Clinton.  This is just a paraphrase, He said he did what he did with Monica because he knew he could.  He thought he could get away with it, that people would believe him when he said he didn't do it.  He said that it did not justify  what he did but that was how he processed it in his mind.  (that's from a t.v. interview he did with someone, I can't remember who). 

It's just like board members or anyone else, people are people.  People do stupid things no matter how smart they may be or appear to be.
