SALT LAKE CITY - A Utah television station is refusing to air an anti-war ad featuring Cindy Sheehan, whose son’s death in Iraq prompted a vigil outside President Bush’s Texas ranch.
KTVX, a local ABC affiliate, rejected the ad in an e-mail to media buyers, writing that it was an “inappropriate commercial advertisement for Salt Lake City.”
Apparently, there's no room for dissent in Utah. At least not when the president is concerned. If this were a conservative ad they wouldn't run, the Sean Hannity's of the world would be starting a boycott right now. They're awfully quiet about it, though, aren't they. In fact, if it is mentioned at all, it'll be "Good for KTVX. About time someone stood up to those "free speech" people."
My friend in Utah just witnessed some conservative activism of his own. He was at a totally legal rave party, where all attendees were searched for drugs or weapons by professional bouncers, all the permits were secured, and SWAT descended on the party and brutalized many of them. Utah sucks. Never mind no room for dissent, there's not even room for fun.
