Nurses at Lockport's hospital are talking about striking again.
They say it's not about money, but offhandedly mention that nurses at St. Mary's make $5 more an hour than they do.
For the record, talk show hosts at Air America make about $30 an hour more than I do. So what? I don't work for Air America and they don't work for MSM. And if Air America would hire me I'd go work there ... maybe nurses at LMH should apply for work at the hospital in Lewiston.
What do you think?
I think I'll talk about this on the show today. I expect to get bashed. C'est la vie.
Scott: This reminds me of a Simpson's episode--Remember Dr. Nick? Riviera?
You get what you pay for and around Niagara County, seems like there's more interest in paying that $30+ and hour for the chief bottle washer and brass polisher for the Department of Public Works (municipality of your choice).
That's too bad--because IMHO, all of our priorities are screwed up. Mt. View, county legal council and legislative helath care, none for little Jimmy or Sally in Burt, NY--cause Dad got laid off, new golf course cop carts with tobacco money (or whatever they were)...and on and on.
Get brought to the hospital (LMH, MSM, NFMMC, NCH, DG) flat on your back and then have a couple of tubes inserted into (up or down) your snooter (or any other orafice) and you and I would pay those RN's just about anything that they wanted. They're worth it...every dollar and then some!
We should be paying parking garage cousins and nephews of politicians what they're worth too. LOL! Let's see: Nurses make $12--17--20 dollars an hour...parking attendants and road flagmen $26-$35.
With an aging population, health care professionals are being ever asked to do more with less..over and over again. We must project future needs (and there will be many because of elderly and increasing disease rates), budget for those future needs, add a contigency and PAY THESE health professional people what they're worth. All of them.
My opinion only,
LR

It's been an American flaw for decades that those who do the least for society get paid the most. Politicians, pro athletes, hollywood actors, and the mayor's limo driver all get waaaaaay too much money for the services they provide. And they just get greedier. Nurses should never make less then a parking attendant.

Some say that would be because St. Mary's handle alot more trauma, cardiac, and childbirth cases. It does seem like people get taken to LMH by ambulance just to be Mercy Flighted to ECMC an awful lot. It's not the nurses fault, but they are more like a triage for Children's and ECMC.

got any #'s to support that comment kspeer? if you go to st. mary's notice the amount of staff working in the er or on the floors compared to that at lmh. the point these nurses may be trying to make is that nuses at other similary sized hospitals are working with a better staffing level, are not forced to work "mandatory" double shifts, and could be recieving more pay.
c'mon kspeer don't correct my work, school doesn't start until tuesday. just wanted to give you some further insight into what may actually be going on with the staff at lmh and why they are unhappy. did my last post seem off the mark?
Yeah, I think everyone gets the same sized concept. It's the same care difference that has been posted by others on the paper's website. I never said that I had numbers, just stating that some of those posts make sense as to why there would be such a large discrepancy in pay, Nurse Hilda.

Can there not be different pay levels for nurses? I know the nurses at St Mary's work harder. If the SHI@ hits the fan in Lockport they just send them to a different hospital. Which is most the time! St. Mary's has a more skilled staff that can handle more than basic broken bones and bandaiding knees. I would have to guess that that is why they make a little more money. Last I checked no one has a gun to any of the nurses heads. If they don't like what's going on at Lockport hospital then QUIT! I dated a Lockport nurse. She used to complain to me how lazy most the nurses are. I for one would go to Newfane before Lockport. Nurses at Newfane atleast smile and treat people with some compation. Keep up the good work management staff! Don't let the union strong arm you!

If Lockport nurses looked like this everyone would get a raise.

HOMO? I've dated some hairy woman in my day but I'm not gay. Just because a women is a little hairy it doesn't make her a man, just a LMH nurse. Shave and put on a smile and maybe a little deoderant and then they might give you a raise. You know what they say beauty is only skin deep but ugly is right to the bone! SEE YA IN THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE NURSE BERTHA!

So Mr. James Hufnagel, why don't you just use your real name when you make these posts? Everyone knows who you are and what icons you use. All the girls in white (hairy ones too) all now know who you are. Saw this post on the employee BB board in the break room this a.m. (got off at 3:30 just now.) Glad I'm not you. Oh, and you might want to think twice about which hospital you choose--unless you're unconcious--then it's LMH first stop--maybe last stop for you!
See you in E.R.
Thanks for posting that picture of me when I volunteered for Red Cross.

You seem to think you know who I am. So your a hot nurse from LMH. I think we have a better chance of finding an under paid one than a hot one. I guess this Huffnagel guy must be against selfish unions too. Well I guess if I'm gonna piss off a bunch of union babies I picked the right ones. A bunch of whining women. Whatcha gonna do put a needle in my tire? Give me a poison sponge bath? Not wipe for me when I'm done deficating? I bet you can't wait to get me in your hospital. Maybe I should have your IP address traced and turn you in for your comments. Nah! I know you don't mean what you say. It's just what selfish unionites do when they know the end is near for them and that fat paycheck. Maybe I'll get a job as your replacement while your striking. It can't be that hard. It might be kinda nice to work an easier job for a while.

So, there's no hypocratic oath for nurses???? I hope this poster isn't actually a nurse....lots of class there. I don't care who your patient is, they should all be treated equally by the hospital staff. And for the record because it's my pet peeve, learn how to spell.

So you have given up the chemical engineer routine for nursing. So what's your name going to be this time nuked? Don't you have a plane to catch? Oh and by the way, I have spoken to Mayor Julie and she's not happy!
"So, there's no hypocratic oath for nurses????" "I hope this poster isn't actually a nurse....lots of class there." Only Hypocratic Oath (correct spelling-Proper noun)(yeah, I hate it too.)
Class is not for the clue-or-classless. No Hypocratic Oath applies for hypocrites. Go stick yourself! Better yet, come over here and bare a Gluteus.
Threat? Not quite. Look at your own photo with a gun in the ribs! LOL!
Aren't you the one that said something about "putting a round behind his left ear" a couple of weeks back? Get off it...ASS, ASS, ASS=Gluteus. Anatomy 101.

I wonder if this poster is trying to discredit the nurses' dispute by impersonating one of them. I mean, this kind of talk definitely wouldn't elicit any sympathy for your cause so I can't imagine that someone who actually cares about the nurses would post this! Since comparisons have been made between the salaries at LMH and St. Mary's in Lewiston, I would like to know more about the difference; in other words, does St Mary's require more out of its RN's in terms of stress, workload, volume of patients that would necessitate a higher pay scale? I assume, if these anonymous posters are the unionized nurses as they claim, that they would have this data since union members often quite readily have the stats and anecdotes to justify their pay, benefits, etc (see some of the posts from LP fireman for example). Oh, and before you threaten my life, I live in Chapel Hill so you'd have to make a long trip.
