Dedicated Main St. employee?
Permalink Closed

Why does Lockport need to hire a person dedicated to Main St. Can't the streets dept. handle the job? Mabye When the workers are done picking up garbage and still have 2 hours remaining on the clock they can go work on Main St. instead of sitting in the garage lifting weights and killing time(wasting $).

Since they want to hire one cop and the Main St. thing, why not combine the 2 jobs? Wasn't there talk of a walking beat cop for Main St.? If they hire a cop that can also fix what's broke and pull some weeds, there ya go.

I like the words to the song that this post is singing!  Allocate existing services.

I listened to the Mayor this morning and his explanation made an awful lot of sense. The perception to tourists is very important to the economy of Lockport and the "word" that is spread from visitors. It sounded as though he already knew who was going to get the appointment, as he kept referring to the new employee as "He." Why not a She?

I think that if this new position is created, that person should also be responsible for the bearutification of Main Street. They not only should have to keep the garbage under control etc. but also keep the flowers weeded and pruned, limbs picked up, grass mowed etc. It should all be part of the job, and the job shouldn't end at Washburn. It should go all the way to the city line, both ways. Especially if this person is to have a helper in the summer time.

I would imagine they would have to have a City vehicle, so picking up the garbage in the downtown area should be a piece of cake. I certainly hope whoever gets the job finds his way to the underpass at the top of Clinton Street Hill. What a mess! It finally gets a new paving done, and then you can't even see the new paving because the garbage is so thick!

instead of hiring a dedicated employee for main st. why can't we have 2 or 3 of these people out there on a daily basis taking care of main st. beautification?

what did the community pride people do with the garbage after they picked it up?

who is responsible if one of these people sentenced to community service is injured while throwing garbage?

I think that the Canadians have the right idea. Fire most of the parks workers, garbage slingers and tree people and hire a couple of new cops. Have the cops that are on light duty or out on comp babysit the chain gang. Think of the savings. Injured policemen would feel needed and we wouldn't be paying them for nothing. Oh wait! The unions run this city and would never let that happen.
