Billionaire B. Thomas Golisano on Tuesday left the Independence Party that he created to join the Republican Party, saying he is "seriously considering a bid for governor."
The enrollment means Golisano could seek the Republican nomination for 2006 among a field of several candidates. He faced a Friday deadline to switch his party enrollment. Golisano has won as much as 14 percent of the vote in three campaigns for governor on the Independence Party line.
I agree with Scott. Galisano and Spitzer are two outstanding choices for governor. Both are very intelligent, successful, straight-laced, and – most importantly for taxpayers – total bad asses. Good times are ahead for New York.
It should be an intriguing gubernatorial race as both men are extremely well-qualified and have a great respect for one another. I wonder how their parties will manage to maintain clean campaigns with such a scenario.
The assembly and senate are fully aware of the drive of these two men and that’s why I believe they are trying to pass the budget reform amendment now, before one of them gets into office. The Legislature knows that with either man in place they will have to be so much more fiscally accountable than they would be with Mr. Passive himself, George Pataki. So, they are doing everything within their power to make sure they, not the governor, have complete power. That being said, remember to vote NO on the amendment in November!
