So, in a backwards way, Bush did well choosing Miers. Her first decision was the correct one, to withdraw from a position for which she herself is not qualified. Perhaps she recognizes that Bush really is a well-dressed adolescent who has no clue what he's doing. 2 monkeys with a Magic-8 Ball could make better choices than him.

Harriet Miers was certainly qualified, in fact, MC, you and I are qualified. Several people who have sat on the Supreme Court were not even lawyers. To say that HM is not qualified is to narrow the field to a few hundred individuals across this entire country.
In light of the recent eminent domain ruling, the 2000 presidential election ruling, and others, you might even say that you and I are *highly* qualified.

I would hope that my supreme court judges would at least have bench time under their belts. Sitting in judgement of people or ideas is not something to be left to on the job training. Although they seem to spend a lot of their time these days just interpretating the constitution.

Anyone who has never met George W. Bush should be a candidate. To be his friend or collegue automatically eliminates you as 'qualified.' Look at how well his other appointees have done... *coughFEMAcough* Excuse me, I've got a little tickle in --*coughKarlRovecough*-- my throat...
Even the Bushies must admit, Dubya has a long-standing record of selecting the most qualified and responsible person for the job -- within 50 feet of his office.
