Buckholtz & Rooney
Information & Facilitation Services
For The Niagara Region of NY and Ontario

For nearly nine years Dr. Peter Buckholtz and Robert Rooney have been the main "answer men" for thousands of e-mail inquiries that have come in to the Lockport Home Page, a Niagara Frontier community website. Because of a need to downsize the activity at the website and focus more intensely on information of a general nature, the free information service previously offered at www.Lockport-NY.com has been terminated.

That service, and much more, have been taken over as a private, For-A-Fee service by Buckholtz and Rooney.

I can't wait until that dip shyt closes that site. It used to be an okay site. Now it's just a Jerry Lewis Telethon without the Kids. I hope he doesn't get the money so he closes that lame site. SCOTTLEFFLER.COM RULES!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions :)

With that said, That site, like it or hate it, provided information accesible from the web, for a long time when there really wasn't many other options available. The niagara county area sorely needs sites like scottleffler.com and the lockport homepage, and as many others as possible. it's quite shocking the lack of accessible information in the area. More discussion forums for residents would be great too!

Anyone who relies solely on the mass media, which in WNY is quite laughable at best, and downright misleading at worst, is simply uninformed and has no clue what the real truth is.

We should be encouraging the local population to get informed, get educated on issues, and most of all participate. Without participation we have no right to complain.

I agree with pcguy here. Although I thought Rooney got it wrong most of the time, I always checked it out and sometimes got some information that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. It was a love-hate relationship. But if he's going to take money and not update the site, that's what I have an issue with.

WOW! How funny!

"Bringing Back The Good News..."

One of the most popular complaints of Lockport Home Page detractors is to the effect that we don't publish enough "good news." That's a valid complaint and it could be charged against other news media as well. The truth is, there isn't as much "good news" that qualifies as real news under most journalistic standards. However, we're willing to give it another effort, starting with this page. Right here and now. The banner was created a couple years ago and we received no contribution from readers.

A good challenge: If we can receive $100/month in contributions, designated for this page, we'll put the staff time and resources into this page, taking away from other tasks and expenses. There. All you who complain! Now you have something more you can do. Send your contribution, as all others, payable to Editor/Publisher, Robert Rooney, c/o Lockport Home Page, You're also invited to send photos and stories that fit this format to the Editor via E-Mail.

Let's see what happens!

I would love to find out how the costs are calculated for the lockport home page. I see figures quoted that seem astronomically high for such a simple web site. I do like the site, and believe it has a place in the community, but question the finances of it all.

I run a commercial website that the true costs of are approximately $225 annually, and this includes some licensed software/apps etc... along with the traditional hosting services, security certificates etc....

These are what I consider the "overhead" costs, along with expenses such as cameras, travel time etc.... No matter how I look at these figures, I can't for the life of me figure out where he gets $4k or $8k annual operating expenditures. Sure it would be nice to take a profit from a site. but in reality he is in startup mode again since his stroke and the inactivity of the site. Even now, the updates are far less often than previously.

As much as I like it, I can't financially kick in on something run in this fashion. These recent ads proclaiming services available dont really hold water either. He needs to be building click counts and traffic. Once you are attracting visitors and growing this number weekly, then you can consider ad revenues to further grow the site. This needs to be his primary goal to ensure survival. Not pleas for donations etc....

If he wants to run purely on donations and charity, then file the paperwork to become a nonprofit and do it properly. Not a mishmash of charity and services income. Thats a broken business model from the start.

Any other thoughs on this?
