As of today - and for the foreseeable future, the forum at scottleffler.com is a members-only affair.
I will keep four different "forums" for the grouping of information. The first three (general, news/blog, and nsq) will be able to be seen by the general public. The fourth can only be seen by registered users.
I'm quite saddened to have to do this, but obviously some people couldn't police themselves very well. Some folks abused the ability to remain anonymous and because of them, anonymity is dead ... somewhat.
I will not require people to use their real names as log-ins, but it would help to foster a certain degree of trust.
You will notice that the number of posts that I have is VERY low. That's becuase I actually deleted my account about two weeks ago out of sheer frustration. I had contemplated deleting the entire forum, but was advised - urged - even begged not to.
From this point forward all users will have ONE account. You have seven days to delete any duplicate accounts. If you do not delete your multiple accounts by December 26th, I will delete them for you - all of them. And your IP will be banned. Some users have spoken of being able to see IP addresses of users. They lied. But I can. I know of two circumstances where two people living in a house each have an account ... I will not delete those accounts. But any other accounts with multiple accounts on one IP - they'll be nixed.
I expect the number of accounts to drop to the 100 range by late this week.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. If you don't like the new rules, you're welcome to create your own forum.
I must confess that I'm incredibly disappointed. Please lift my faith. That said, I'll likely be playing a reduced role, not posting nearly as often as I had before.
I am glad you are keeping this site. It is good to have a forum which can be used as a local source to post comments as I have trouble calling into your radio show.
Your decision to eliminate anonymous posting was a good one. While I think an occasional anon is a good thing, it was used too often in ways that discredited and damaged the rest of us.
I'm looking forward to people using their name or at least a familiar handle, such as the Speers, Bob Confer, Jim Sacco and others known and respected in the community. Now that should be more desirable without the cheap shots and irresponsible taunts.
