Map Political Contributions in Your Zip Code <http://www.researchbuzz.org/2005/12/map_political_contributions_in.shtml>
Matthew Kane did a Google Mashup for a class at Indiana University and we all benefit! His project allows you to enter a zip code and get two pie charts and a Google map of campaign donators; you can check it out at http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~markane/i590/contributors.html .
The front page does note "realize that due to limitations in the geocoding as well as my data source this system does NOT work very well for zip codes representing a small population and contributions under $200 are not required to be present in the public databases." So be warned. Also be warned that this just maps contributions for the two major parties in the 2004 presidential campaign so should be thought of as more of a snapshot than anything else.
Now that I'm done bumming you out, enter a zip code. I entered 90210. (Note you can also specify that you want phone numbers in your results, but that will end up taking a long time.) The two pie charts will tell you the percentage of people donating to Democrats vs. Republicans. The second chart will tell you the percentage of donated money that went to Republicans vs. Democrats.
The third pie chart maps out the donators in the zip code area with red and blue markers. Click a marker and you'll get a name and address, the amount they donated, and to whom they donated. Note that donations were not just to the main presidential candidates, but also to the DNC, RNC, other candidates like Clark and Dean, etc.
