Because it's an Audi and it needs five coils. Who would engineer it like that anyway? Except maybe a repair guy. No bored Maytag-mustang men for that Audi team or their bunkhouse full of repairmen. No sirREE.

Oh well, by Monday someone will be able to answer, then after that the parts can be ordered. So, this owner is looking at sometime mid-February (Maybe) before they are mobile again. I wonder what a rental car goes for there on Brokeback Mountain? Sorry. Sometimes, I just can't help myself.

thanks , but the car is fixed , the bill is paid , all are happy . that waveform is captured with an Edge Engine Tech system [now discontinued] and recorded into a data base designed to capture and store waveforms with discussion of the failure and fix . Engine tech captures the waveforms and stores them , where they can be played back , timebase settings can be changed after the capture to see more with less resolution or concentrate on short segments of the capture with high resolution . this capture is #1278 in that particular data base in my old mr computer , it is years old . there were no TSBs or recalls for early COP systems and we needed to be fluent in multi channel oscilliscope use to hunt problems down . in the real world "coil testers " are useless , the scope waveforms tell all . newer cars have misfire monitors / counters and mode 6 and the p0300 series of DTCs to aid in identifieing problem cylinders .

this shows an A6 audi v6 ATQ 2.8 liter 5 valve per cylinder , the timing belt is misaligned , both cam sensors should line up with the crankshaft sensor the same , the left cam is incorrect . intake vacuum measures 20" steady smooth , there are no related DTCs. fun with scopes . $1000 to mr customer , much more if he waits until the timing belt breaks .

what is my identity ? i am Mike Webb , oldest wisest son of Sheila Webb , i have also been known as mike of the mountain for some time now .

this is a scan tool capture of mode 6 data , partialy translated but enough for the purposes of repair this car - this is a subaru forester with a p0420 dtc , the dreaded cat converter low efficiency code . this mode 6 test with the p0420 equals a bad cat converter , dont waste any time on further diagnostics , replace the cat converter , only with an OEM subaru part , california spec . or the car will return with the same problem ....

the resolution sux , but photobucket is free , below is the wrong image but i leave it anyway , a jeep with a failed , stuck on cooling fan control module - has one DTC for the cooling fan module control circuit .

All I will say is that I have spent five years in full time research on this subject and was shoved (locally) by a US Army officer at a meeting. here is an older single overhead cam audi v6 2.8 liter engine part way through a timing belt replacement - you can see that all of the front body parts and radiator and ac condenser with fans have been removed to gain accsess to the front of the engine - the cams are locked in place with the audi tool designed for that purpose . the timing belt and tensioners and water pump are all in place but they all get replaced when replacing the timing belt on this engine . this is the only way to do a timing belt in a v6 audi or from the mid 90s to today. pictured is the earlier sohc engine the later dohc engines require a little more .

i never worked on those cars both appear to be manufactured in the fifties or sixties , we dont work on antiques like that - either of them - there is no suit , there was no crash of anything related to me or my shop- the poster nuclearlou is lying outright and he knows it .

this is not my computer - ids wont match but i am mike webb .

current estimating software shows t belt / water pump replacement on a 2001 audi a6 quattro with 2.8 --- about $1400 of which 6.5 hours at $77.50 is labor ---- no guessing , no chinese parts , no shortcuts.

I'm talking about a deadly crash and this other poster keeps posting his accusations toward me. That's just darn unforunate. Conscience is a great equalizer, I guess.

The vehicle(s) on the cover of that piece were never stated that they were involved in the original story. If one simply looks at what the lower caption say-"Proof Positive that these two crashed." The mixture and confusion was on the part of the previous poster and may be the reason (his misinterrpretation of fact) that these comments about "lies" keeps getting posted. I find it annoying and more than a bit arrogant. Sorry.

It seems that's been the case all along with this one poster keeps addressing me directly in the terms of questioning my veracity. I find that offensive from someone who just edited out of the previous post--"Auntie's Special Garden"--("In the Shade"-Sung to "An Octopuses Garden" by the Beatles--I just added this.)

It also took the mentioned poster THREE MONTHS to give only a partial answer that raised additional questions about being around numerous illegal things including explosives, events etc. I'm sorry. I don't wish to be associated with that sort of situation. Who knows what else? SOrry. Please.
