Scott brought up a topic today on his show about Mr. Thomas wearing a hat at the common council meeting.  When he went up to the podium, he was asked to remove his hat.  I think it's weird how some antiquated traditions are upheld, and some aren't.

It reminds me of when my parents used to belong to this annoying yacht club in the Falls.  They had a "hat thing" there.  You absolutely could not wear a hat in the bar or dining room area.  I mean it wasn't a dressy place.  No shirt and tie rule.  You could walk through the bar to get to the bathroom in a dripping wet bathing suit, and that was okay.  But God forbid if you had a hat on!  Joe wore his hat once, and all the old guys were up in arms and yelling at him.

At Darien Lake a couple years ago, I was told I could not go on the kiddie train in kiddie land with my son unless I put a shirt over my bathing suit top.  It wasn't a bikini. It didn't even expose my back.  It was one of those tank top suits.  So Joe went all the way back to the car and got my tank top (with spaghetti straps) to put on over my suit.  Huh?  It was actually smaller than the suit!  They said that was perfectly fine.  Some of the younger teenage girls had on backless halter tops, and that was okay.  I was told it was a safety issue about bare skin on the seats.  That was really inconvenient and unnecessary for me, and made no sense.  I noticed this year that you didn't even have to have pants on to get on roller coasters.  Now they let WET nasty bathing suits on with no problem!  And I mean NASTY with some of the women we saw.  Enough to burn your eyes from the sockets!  Perplexing.

A friend of mine decided to check out a new restaurant on Davison Road soon after it opened.  She's pretty young, like 22 and very pretty.  She also dresses very nice and fashionable.  It was a summer night, so she probably had on capri pants and a nice sparkly tank top (or something like that a girl her age would wear).  When she walked in, she was asked to leave because she wasn't "dressed up" enough.  As far as I know, there's not a jacket and tie policy there.  And if there is, what exactly is the distinction for a woman?  Pantyhose and heels? A girdle and a easter bonnet?  Actually, I know what it is...a big fat purse and a wrinkled face!
