My class of 1976 at the lput seems to be getting shorter,Also the kids I grew up with is shorter too.A old friend passed away ,listed today in the paper.M.W......I will not give his name.You can go read if you need.My wonder is did he have cancer.We all lived in youngstown,seems so far away now.How sad for us ,how sad for the kids that go there now.I do not think even Dr Suess could save us now.....

that is the question , the answer is elusive - for starters you may search in the CDC and NYS DOH sites for niagara county for cancer incedence & mortality then search for cancer incedence & mortality by zipcode - both in google or whatever - yyou will see the #s vary ??? how ???

then check the same thing for the state of utah - look closley at the cancer incedence & mortality national average figures for utah - they are different than the national averages listed for new york ? how ?

there is a solution , but little interest in pursuing it ....

As I sit here and read all the postings of the last few weeks, I have to wonder if I have lost sight of why I joined this board. I am probably the most guilty of making light of serious issues, but some times if we don’t laugh we will cry. Or worse, lash out at someone simply because they are there. I have also been guilty of lashing out at some of you. For those who took an unprovoked attack I am sorry. The wealth of knowledge on this board blows my mind, but yet somehow we can’t manage to work together. This is what I don’t understand. Many of the threads on this forum are full of facts that make your head spin, and yet we (me included) look the other way. The name of this thread says it all: “Time to gather the numbers”. Look back at all the topics that are no longer active, some very important information has been pushed back several pages.

I don’t want to be guilty of over looking an issue because I don’t like the messenger or the message. Unfortunately I have been, for that I am also sorry. What I’m trying to say is that fun is good, but let’s not forget the issues. JS you tried to tell us this a few weeks ago and we blew you off. What can I say, I’m a slow learner, but I get it now. I am going to try to balance things better, post a bit less, and listen to the rest of you more. Knowledge is power and we have a lot of both here, lets use it for the benefit of all of us and get all our messages out. Leaving the soap box now!

I think your right. All of us need to learn from each other...some of us are too uptight and some of us are too loose on our postings. I have learned a lot from everyone and for that I am thankful.

I am very guilty of not being serious,or the other side ready to attack.I started this board with the thought of trying to move Lput.You have all made me see the mirror image of myself.Which is sometimes good sometimes not so nice.....It was great to have a sounding board and people,at least one of you who are there.......Time for me to take a break....Be good to each other..TY js,ks.Aw,even mindcrime,.....You and MOTM are a pair...One last song for awhile...Time for me to fly...........see you in awhile

Niagara County Cancer Rate Highest In Western New York

Figures released this week by the New York State Department of Health indicate the rate of lung cancer in Niagara County is the highest in Western New York and well above national averages. Rates for other forms of cancer are higher here, too, the Health Department statistics indicated. For lung cancer in males the rate is reported at 90 per 100,000 people (per year) and for females 47 per 100,000. The main cause of lung cancer is smoking. However, secondary causes are related to air pollution and Niagara County has a long history of chemical contamination in the air, mostly originating from the industrial strip along the Niagara River from Buffalo to Niagara Falls. Experts say it often takes as many as forty years for such cancers to develop which ties in with the large amounts of air pollution from the Niagara River industrial complex back in the period before 1970. Prevailing winds dump much of the high stack chemical exhaust from Niagara Falls into northern and eastern portions of Niagara County. (12/11/99

The date listed is important----Because the Niagara County Health Department is on record as saying that rates WERE NOT HIGHER than anywhere else in the state. This was said on the record by a NCHD official. Why was NCHD contradicting the State at the same time and AFTER?
