LOYALIST TOWNSHIP, Ont. (CP) _ A family dog was credited with saving the lives of five people after waking its owner during a house fire early Wednesday.

Provincial police said the pet woke up homeowner Daniel Giffin, who discovered the detached garage of his Loyalist Township home ablaze.

A strong wind fanned the flames and the fire soon spread to the family home shortly after Giffin ushered his wife Tracie and three children _ Cole, 11, and twins Sarah and Spencer, 6 _ out of the house to safety.

By the time firefighters arrived, police said the house was engulfed in flames.

MC, I have a 5 ft. snake. It doesn't really do much. I just feed it once every 2 weeks. My dog on the other hand can play frisbee, do tricks and they're loyal.

I've had several snakes and a bearded dragon. They've never woken the neighbors, chewed my belongings, pooped on the floor, got hair on everything or cost me a lot in apartment fees.

Jspeer,said the grinning cat who could vanish......we have two cats.1 dog 2 guinne pigs 1 hare who lives outside,a pair of fishing hawks who live in the pole outside with the transformer.That would be a utilty pole...........I do not know may have to change my icon,have to wait till the teaparty is over,and the little hearts can do it
