I've never heard of such a thing.

I can understand why Lockport may not want him to go ... but the school district doesn't run his life and it shouldn't. If what you wrote is the case, it's just wrong. I'd fight it.

And frankly, the only reason a school mandates attendance is so they can get state aid. I don't care about attendance as long as the student learns the material, passes the tests and completes the projects on time.

Just my two cents.

His own school can ban him from his own prom,BUT not another schools.

You can only miss 5 days? Wow, I had no idea. Good thing it wasn't like that for me. I missed 65 days my senior year and still graduated with honors.

What if it's another scenario? What happens if the guest already graduated from another district and he's a convicted felon? Is that okay? There'a no other school district to fill out the form. Do they do full background checks also? Ask for a SS#?

What exactly would the credibility problem be?

KS what a small world, turns out the girls family are friends of mine. I talked with the mom the other day and the sister today. Mom told me it was ROY-Hart that put the breaks on this one.One of the administrators talked Lockport into sending the Boys file back to Roy-Hart. Then the over bearing administrator decided that this boy, who used to attend Roy-Hart, was no longer the type of kid who is welcome. Policy aside, something smells in Roy-Hart and I can't even blame FMC.

Tell your friend that the educational record CAN NOT be sent to another school without a signed consent from the parents. Family Rights to Privacy Act spells it out quite clearly. This is a huge violation of this boys civil rights. I know 3 R-H grads that are attending that prom, did they send to their college for permission? This school has a nasty habit of twisting policy to make it fit into the plan. Have them kick up some major dust, Roy-Hart hates attention.

And just so everyone knows, he is not a bad kid. I've known him since he was a little boy. There was a personal issue with an employee of the district that is probably the reason for the hoopla.

Hey ks, what ever happened with this? The prom was Friday and I haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks.

Proms can be an important step in the life, mind, memory, learning experience of a young adult. Isn't THAT ultimately the reason why they are allowed in school?

It's too bad that this one was "tarnished " with politics. This may be one more indication that parents are not being served for their educational/tax dollar about just what it is kids learn. The kids certainly aren't "served" by this sort of thing, are they? Are proms really THAT rough today?

I like the college comment~! Wasn't the girl who made or accepted the invitation to the prom educated enough by now (high school) to know who she should or shouldn't bring into HER school?

Her parents would let her go to the prom with a thug would they? What about prom pictures? Kind of like the mug shot anyway:*) isn't it?
