I certainly think this story was newsworthy, and what is more alarming is that no one has any idea what caused the symptoms. It could have been a chemical or biological agent, which in trace amounts, can cause at least 'flu-like symptoms.' If these men had worked around such agents to print their money, they may have developed an immunity to them. It could have been the ink, the printing environment, or who knows what else, but I'm dissappointed that all their testing came up 'negative.'

I'd be very interested in the follow-up story

PT,

I heard the cash was coated in mace or pepper spray and that's what caused them to be sick. Don't know if it's true. Just what I heard.

"Thirty-four travelers on the bridge and a half dozen Customs and Border Protection agents were initially isolated after their exposure. Twenty-one people, including the Customs agents, were then quarantined and decontaminated"

That could explain the person that opened the bag, but there were so many effected. I don't know much about mace and pepper spray, but law enforcement officials use this stuff with no ill effects to themselves. We are talking about 21 people here, this is was mass casualty incident. One of the first things they thought at Starpoint was mace of pepper spray, turned out that wasn't the case. Then Niagara County Health Department took over and it became a 3-ring circus. Good thing they were at this incident as well, we wouldn't want real answers to hurt tourism.

I thought you could use a new perspective on this topic.  Why would you think that the border incident and Starpoint incident are related?  I saw no mention of children in the news article about the border shutdown.  You know, Starpoint continues to just get related to whatever is thrown out into the media. Don't you know that the school is SAFE!!!

Maybe you should meet with the Niagara County Health Department if you have questions on how they handled these two incidents.  You are comparing apples to oranges.  Do you really think that our health dept. would really put anyone at risk?

Short answer about the Health Department--NO. They are NOT trustworthy. Period. And YES, they have and continue to put Niagara County residents at risk--No, they have put us in DANGER.

Nice of you to jump right in here and give us your positive opinion about them though. Thanks, that says a lot. QUESTION: DO YOU WORK FOR THEM? Paulette Kline? Niagara Health-Science Project? RRG?

How could we POSSIBLY know that about Starpoint, since local officials cannot say with any certainty or honesty that it is safe and they are hiding various information that would prove otherwise or they are being obstructionist with regard to soils and water testing--above ground and below? Speaking of "testing" have YOU seen any of it?

I personally would be glad to discuss this here with you in detail.

Regards, your worthy opponent,

Lou Ricciuti

*Maybe Scott could get Niagara County Legislative Chairman Bill Ross and NC Health Dept. Director Paulette Kline to come on his show later this coming week or perhaps the next for some REAL dialog> Scott?

I like your style and no I don't work in Niagara County//

As for those test results, I have read them.  Have you??

What makes you think that soil testing will prove anything?  And even if it could, you are never going to get the school to test for it...remember love canal.. or maybe look at lp or rh.

Tests can be distorted.

Maybe you should read my other post under all in this together.  Then maybe we can talk further.

AW, they use a different type of pepper spray... I think it's like a foam. I have friends that work at NC jail and they use it. I was in a bar in Lockport about 5 years ago when a girl hit the one on her key chain for less than a second and choked out about 75 people, in a 100 ft radius. My eyes and throat were on fire and I was about 50ft away from ground zero. I couldn't believe it was pepper spray.

I worked at a bar where a dumb girl sprayed pepper spray (Daniel's). It was awful. After we aired out for about an hour, we came back in and tried to clean it off the bar. What a mistake! The water on the bar rag reactivated the spray and it happened all over again.
