Here's an interesting story on MSNBC's website that purports that W is toast. Personally, I think it's a bit early to write the shrub off ... what do you think?
I think that the people who refer to him as 'King George' are right on. He seems to be acting more like a iron-fisted monarch rather than a democratic leader, expecting his loyal subjects to simply do whatevcer he commands. And I say acting because he's not leading, he's just really filling in until 2008.
The article mentions spending 'political capital.' It's easy to see why he's a failed businessman, when he assumed a half-mandate from the masses equated to a full pocketbook of capital to spend.

Good point. Personally, I think W DID have some political capital, but spent it quickly on Social Security reform rather than taking the little wins and building interest on his capital. Now he's taken out a layaway on Social Security, but doesn't have the capital to outright buy it. And doesn't have any money to buy anything else.
Not only is he a lame duck president, he's a lame policy president as well. He can't get his nominees appointed (for any position), his tax policies, his social security project, he can't get education to our young people, he can't get health care to our old people, about the only thing he's successful at is bombing deserts and wasting my tax dollars. Oh, that and running around with Rice to the tune of bringing freedom & democracy to the rest of the world.
Remember back in January 2004, when Bush was pounding his fist and talking about all the political capital he was going to spend? Remembering that made it so much fun to watch Bush pleading before the Senate the other day. He was still trying to get John Bolton appointed as our UN representative. He didn't give any reasons, just chuckled and bobbed his head like a yokel. Has he been completely defanged? I don't know. Real money still talks. But his political capital has been blown on washing other people's hands. Even his own party doesn't listen to him.
He certainly didn't sound like the commander-in-chief of the most powerful nation in the world. He sounded more like the orphan Oliver saying "Please, sir, may I have some more?"

Ya know, I saw a Bush press conference recently, a reporter asked a question about troops dying in Iraq and the casualty figures, etc., and Bush just grinned more and more as the man talked about the deaths of Americans! Then, he really did chuckle and just repeated the fact that "he thinks about Iraq every day." He didn't even attempt to answer the question. He does this excessively, almost like he's enjoying it. He laughs off serious questions, about very serious topics, then either passes it off as a non-issue, changes the subject, or just stammers and regurgitates a lot of political nonsense. There's no other way to say it, Bush really pisses me off.
BTW, nice Dickens reference MC
