Another water rate hike eyed?

I thought that was an interesting comment,"It’s not a nice choice in an election year.”

When is it a nice choice?  In a non-election year were the taxpayers might forget about it?

I'm relativly new to the city so I am largly ignorant of the local services & goings ons, but I'm learning & common sence dictates this didn't just happened over night.

Raising the water rate is just a band-aid.

How did there get to be a deficit to begin with?

Is the water treatment plant  like the power plant where the people in control turn over a tremendus profit at consumer's expence?

Maybe it's time for people to see if that old cistern in their basement is still usable?

Excellent observation SCBan. They don't care about taxes and fees in even numbered years. Only odd ones.

You hit the nail on the head Scott. I think term limits would solve the problem. Then our elected officials would pay more attention to things that matter in the time they have and not spend the last year of their term thinking about getting re-elected. In my eyes, I think we need young people with fresh ideas in office. Out with the old and in with the new! We should have a diversified mix so everyone is heard.

Of course, this goes back to the four year term issue ...

If they have a four year term, they only have to worry about taxes and fee increases every fourth year ... instead of every other year ... ergo, our taxes would go up twice as much/fast.

This is another "It will be great" promise that only ever cost money extra for me. This project and everything will be great, great next project, bond, sales tax, surcharge, rate hike, toll booth hike and its all the same. Tax break here, lower their assessment there, most-favored-nation status to near-criminals (and some), brothers, kids, cousins, father-in-laws felonies and I get fined for grass length in the house I live in!

Water rates around the great lakes should be zero. Why not? We provide drinking and industry water for miles around and have for years. On our backs we support others and not ourselves. Didn't say ours first, just that we insure "ours."
