Really glad to hear that, it could have been big problems. But your right about the conflict of interest. I have to wonder: If she is Mills' intern shouldn't she be obstaining from voting on all of his recomendations to the board? That would be every resolution at every board meeting. Oh and here's another question. It is the responsibility of the superintendent and board president to develope the adgenda used at the board meetings. Is the vice president now handleing that responsibility? I wonder if any of those board votes are legal. Wow lots of questions here.

I thought you would be interested in knowing that the legislature is looking to create an Inspector General for schools. They must not have had enough complaints from taxpayers in the past, but just found out how much their school tax is going up.

Or could they be concerned over admininstrator's and board members ripping off the schools. Now, of course, that would never happen in NC.

Maybe someone should do a comparison of supt. salaries. Check out www.starpointrag.com and see what the starpoint supt. was making compared to the williamsville supt. and check out the extras. The newfane supt. is making quite a small amt. compared to the starpoint supt., just in salary alone. The starpoint supt. just got an $11,000 raise this year. Maybe Mr. Mills feels shortchanged or is Dr. Whelan getting hazard pay.

It is great that Newfane CARES is informing the public. They should think about having public meetings like the one held in Pendleton last week.

I heard that the Pendleton meeting was an eye opener to the public. Did anyone go???

Ann it sounds like the community is not happy with this contract. I thought I read that the health insurance could not go with you after retirement if you move out of state. Was that reported wrong?

And Anne - honestly it doesn't seem to matter who is in office. School taxes started getting out of hand back when Clinton was in, they've just picked up speed during the Bush administration & I really doubt a different president would make a difference.

These are problems brought on by our state & local governments.

Someone with the voice & the power needs to say "Enough" & I just don't see it happening.

There are very few high paying jobs in this area that aren’t union. I think Union's can be good up to a point. They stop being well when people with barely a high school education decide to go on strike so they can make $50k/ yr instead of $48k.

It’s a good bed that half the mortgage payment on most homes in this area is taxes & half those taxes go to the school.

It’s out of control. Every time there is a meeting anywhere to discuss school taxes people state it’s out of control yet the people who approve more spending seem to keep getting elected.

Lots of information here Ann, you really try to stay up to date. I hate to fuel your fire but teacher work 185 - 200 days a year. Students are required at attend 180 days. Newfane Cares doesn't have to go through Albany, all contracts are available at the school. Might save a bit of time.

I Think Niagara county could use some of that adult supervision Erie County is about to get. If something doesn't change soon, we will be in the same boat.

I thought you posted 282, sorry for the mix up. Those numbers are actual days worked. Students are required to attend school 180 days.

WOW! Lots of discussion on Newfane BOE. I'd like to comment on a couple of things mentioned.

First, the BOE claims that Donna Hill was not paid for her internship. So what! If she is being supervised by Dr. Mills during this internship and if he writes her evaluation how can she negotiate his contract???

On board member James Reineke, he's the only one that thinks there's anything wrong with the BOE President serving an internship. The guy might be young but he knows right from wrong.

Now that Rick Rhummel has been officially charged it will be real interesting to see what the BOE does next if he's found guilty.

The taxpayers in the district need to start paying attention more closely. Annie, please run for school board or help find someone that sees things like you do. Jamie Reineke needs help, Carol Savigny is a start but they can't do it alone. The next BOE meeting is July 13 @ 7pm {most likely in the high school library} The taxpayers need to start attending and letting these people know they're being watched! Don't plan on speaking during the public comment session, if it's not on their agenda you can't talk about it. Oh, speaking of agendas, the BOE and administrators get a complete agenda, the audience gets a watered down version. I guess it's done on a need to know basis and the people paying the bills don't need to know.

Just as a side note as to how lame {or arrogant} these clowns are, they still haven't posted the minutes from any of the three BOE meetings in June on the website. Check it out for yourself www.newfane.wnyric.org click on "District Offices" and then click on "Board of Education". If the minutes are posted there will be a line under the date as a link to the minutes.

A couple of thoughts in closing..."it's for the kids" and "together we can"

I think you missed that you and SoccerMom are on the same side here. Tone is difficult to judge on these things, but I think the "it's for the kids" and "together we can" were meant to be sarcastic.

You're exactly right, I was being sarcastic! Annie and I see things the same, yes I might have lots of money but not for these jerks to suck out of my pocket for their coffers. I do a have a child in the district but there is a limit to this outrageous spending. The only reason I'm still living here is because he wants to finish high school with his friends, after that I'm out of here. As a matter of fact I just returned from North Carolina where I was scouting out possible places to live. Did you know that they have NO school tax? Their taxes are approx $700. per $100,000 in assessment.

Annie, I was at the meeting when the BOE voted to give Donna Hill the authority to enter in to a contract with Mills, Reineke did not vote, he never said yes, no or abstain. I've been watching this soap opera for quite some time and I see right thru all of it. Administrators {building principals}that make over 100,000 a year, this is Newfane folks, not Orchard Park or Amherst.

As for Carol Savigny, you need to talk to her one on one. She comes across as quiet and polite in the interveiws in the paper, don't worry, she's as sick of the crap as we are. Jamie and Carol are going to have an ugly year ahead, the rest of the BOE will make sure of that.

As for the Rhummel ordeal, these BOE members are so arrogant it's unreal. Rick Krueger never would have questioned the whole thing if he wasn't absolutely sure he was on to something. If Rhummel can't wiggle out of this they probably will re-appoint Donna Hill and then she can play so more "get even for not re-electing me" games.

The problem we have with all of this is that NYS has given BOE's so much power it's almost impossible to stop them. The only thing we as taxpayers can do is find 2 quailifed candidates to run in May against the incumbents.

It looks like Annie and soccermom could be the dynamic duo of Newfane. I need to clear up one misunderstanding.
