Scott,

Here's the warts on this imported-kid-for-hire you talked about this morning:

1. Your guest went to lengths to say that all expenses like food, transportation are paid for. One of the major, if not the major, costs associated with having a big group of kids hold a slumber party under the school district roof, something that really otherwise never takes place, is insurance. There is big risk in having that many kids spend the night together in one place, and the insurance tab is probably commensurate.

2. Your guest repeated over and over that the kids return at the end of the day to attend a "program". What do you want to bet this is actually a "religious service" conducted on "public property".

3. My neighbor a couple of years ago had these kids over to paint their house. While the neighbor was not capable of painting his $180,000 house, it made me wonder what local contractors think of the idea of out-of-town kids doing roofing, painting, etc., for free.

Who flips the bill when a kid gets hurt with no comp? Where's Harry Apolito when we need him? I know he wouldn't let this happen...unless they are overriding him? It stinks when small business gets taxed and permitted to death while they let out of state CHILDREN work for free. I guess it's just who you know. Maybe we should call the local 91 to come and picket them.LOL! Just kidding so don't go throwing bibles at me.

Are you both being facetious? I'm sure the insurance isn't cheap ... but worth it.

And as for the religious service in a public building ... that doesn't bother me. They're not forcing you to go to it ... and it's not imposing on anyone.

And lastly ... if you can't afford a private contractor, you need to just watch your house ROT? That's not capitalism. That's greed.

Now the instance of the $180,000 house ... that I'd have a problem with, but I'm sure you can always find warts.

The school district would have had to see proof of insurance before passing the resolution allowing them to use the facilities. All organizations need to add the school districts as additionally insured to use the space. As for the religious aspect, as long as the school does not promote it it’s legal. They are just a group asking to use a public facility.
