As much as I hate to add to the anti-religion tone this board seems to be taking on, I had to comment on a statement made today by the Catholic Diocese. Bishop Edward U. Kmiec implored Mayor Masiello in a letter to scrap the city's plan to build a casino in the downtown area claiming that casino gambling will: increase gambling additiction, patron bankrupty, family violence, attract criminals and prostitutes, hurt restaurant business as well as increasing police costs. Kmiec asked local parishoners to also write the Mayor and try to persuade him to forego this greedy venture, saying it will attract the worst sorts of people.

He specified writing because he didn't want the BINGO attendance to drop...

God forbid that Bingo revenue is effected. Last I checked Bingo is pretty addictive. I used to be a Volley at a local fire dept. and some of those ladies spend every penny they have on Bingo. If the Catholic Diocese cancels Bingo then they might have an argument...they need to "Practice what they Preach".
