Canada Looks Into Easing Prostitution Laws
Permalink Closed

WBEN Newsroom - Thursday, October 6, 2005 05:09 AM

Ottawa, ON (BN) - A parliamentary committee will reportedly recommend Ottawa strike anti-prostitution laws off the books.

Although prostitution is legal in Canada, federal law bans solicitation -- the operation of a bawdy house and the living off the avails of prostitution.

CTV News says the committee, which held hearings on prostitution, will recommend those laws be eliminated.

That's great to hear, except: Why is it I always read about freedoms in other countries that people in "the land of the free" will never enjoy?

Selling is legal. Screwing is legal. Why should it be illegal to combine them?

RE: Consensual Crime?

Dear Niagara County Legislature and local Town Councils:

PROPOSAL

SUBMITTED FOR YOUR APPROVAL

Please consider this an official proposal for COUNTY Economic Development and IDA consideration. Hey, Canada's "doing it."

As it has been brought to the attention of certain Niagara County residents, and WHEREas, these local residents have discussed the idea of operating a [BROTHEL] in said Niagara COUNTY, and BEING THAT the county financial coffers are in poor shape, and, WHEREas, the COUNTY is in need of accompanying "Attractions" to augment the new casino and other touist related ACCOUTERMENTS, please be advised that a proposal for such enterprise [BROTHEL] is forthcoming.

Any NC Health Department guidance would be appreciated.

It is the concencus of adults over the age of majority, all resdients of Niagara County, that feel this idea could and should be looked into as feasible and "Doable."  It is my personal feeling that this would be a wonderful business opportunity and potentail for Public-PRIVATE Partnerships, if managed and handled properly and discretely at the COUNTY Level.

An equity stake would be offered to the COUNTY coffers similar to casino and waste "Host Agreements" that are currently being used in Lewiston-Porter and Niagara for various operations in these locations.

FURTHER, It is the feeling of This Proposor-

That this contract could be worth up to $5.00 (P.T.-Net Net)

We would therefore be able to offer in some cases, more monetary "tipping fees" (T.F.) and economic benefit (not-without-mention: The large number of employment opportunities this proposal affords), than some of the trucks entering the COUNTY for waste handling purposes.

It is futher the Feeling that the COUNTY or individual towns should not scoff at this idea as -- IT IS FELT THAT -- as in the tourism community there is a saying "heads on beds." This would also apply here with economic development.

...IT shouldn't matter where the money comes from with "Host" agreements--whether it is $5.00 (five-dollars US) A TRUCK, OR, $5.00 (five-dollars US)  Per TRICK (P.T. Net Net Net Net.)

Either way, it's $5. bucks... (five-bucks US.)

Submitted for consideration to the appropriate Bodies on this day-- May 09, 2005

No one will want to touch this until a study is done on the money. Then, every political person within thirty miles will be asking for a "piece" of the newly legal pie!

We have had legal prostitution in Niagara County for years. 19 men and women who meet  twice a month, take are money and screw us every chance they can! What do you call that?

Dear Ed:

We've never met but I HAVE to say that your last entry here is the most OMG politically astute and hilarious comment on the entire Forum board, IMHHO. I think if we tried just a little, there's a lot of humor mileage that could be gotten out of that Prostitution and Our La Cosa Governme-Nostra Thing. Vegas couldn't hold a candle to Niagara politics. (Mt. View as the new Chicken Ranch?)

If you didn't hit the nail right on the head, no one ever has!   LOL!

I've even heard that you can watch their seedy falcon'around on some closed circuit pay-per t.v. channel deal and that some of The-19 have interns and desks.....

And Thanks,

Lou

Unlike prostitution, that's not necessarily consensual...

Joe,

I'm not likin' the potential for mix-up.

Go to Mount View looking for some action ... spend the day talking to someone who thinks she's your grandma. Or worse ...

I think the prostitutes would demand more hospitable edifice than Mt. View can possibly offer.

Sometimes, the only excuse I can think of for certain people is inbreeding. That's why we need to regulate the prostitution industry.

Regulate? Same solution as suggested for fire volunteers and others.

There's a difference between setting standards and simply spying on them. Personally, I'll let you spy on the firemen...

HUMOR - Personally, I'll take the Mt. View Action Spy-Cam instead--and that picture ain't pretty. Those old folks have more 'action' than at any of the firehalls anyway. Imagine that! All those dirty old things happening at a taxpayer funded facility...hey, just like the White House Oval Orifice incident.

Thanks for "letting me" Mindcrime. I'll pick and choose my own cam locations. Always have, always will, thanks. Still think the County could make money off of this idea. Hey, wait a second, I proposed this months ago!  LOL!

Who is the Madame and who's the Solicitor (in CountyGoodGov)?

Do you mean the county could make money of the camera feeds? Or the legalization of prositution? Either way, it's a good idea. But any extra money that this county gets it's hands on seems to get sucked into a black hole.

NIAGARA should Look Into Easing Prostitution Laws

Yes to both and you hit it right on the head, Mindcrime. Look at the casino money troubles.

If Jesus (or you choose) showed up at the corner of 31 and Bewley offering salvation and standing on his head spitting silver coins, county officials would arrest him, fine him, decline the salvation, declare the corner an ideal location for a religious museum, collect and count the coins, go on a junket to Casino Verona, Niagara (or you choose), take Jesus away to the Sunset House in handcuffs and that would be the last anyone would ever see of the money. (Did I mention the jail "upgrades?")

The Bearded One would later be seen somewhere out on Transit, working along the roadside in an orange jump suit, peeling off one-candidate-for-Sheriff-or-another's stickers from the tel-poles and snow plow blades.

Later that evening, a long line of Lexus L-))00s and Range Rovers belonging to The-19 festoon all available parking spaces on the grand driveway-champagne concourse glamor-entrance at the newly re-opened but name retained 'MOUNT View.'

NOW, we have a marketing plan for the bawdy house and the Web feed. I smell the makings of a wonderful public-privatepartsnership--(Bill? Lee? Glenn?)  I say we-the-people incorporate, sell the stock and do this just like Green Bay did with the Packers. (Bill?) Hey, if we don't take ownership of something soon, they'll be feeding us all bird seed----Imported to Niagara from a sweat-pet shop somewhere in Nicaragua!

If any of yous 19 are interested (Bill, Lee, Glenn?), hey, contact me on the side and I'll cut yous in on the rest of the marketing plan. That is, if you can get this family I know a little health care for their sick kids--you see, Dad's about to loose his job cause NY is a really good reason to move your company to Kukamunga.

I don't believe for one iota that it's at all about "union wages." Wait until America is gutted of ALL union jobs...wait, isn't that what's happening anyway?

Don't whine and be jealous of your neighbor because he's making "wage." Soon, we'll all be in poverty and fighting for scraps and bird seed. I also don't think this has anything to do with some local guys "slacking"--and if some say they are, maybe this population is genuinely sick (the area IS rife with bad disease stats).

Now that you BOYS have had a good giggle...

As a woman, a somewhat liberal, and a Democrat; I do not wish to see prostitution legalized. I would really hate to see something so degrading become a "career" choice for anybody. And that is probably what would happen. Look at how many women choose to be strippers...er, exotic dancers. What a great career and wonderful future.

To me, sex is more than just a physical experience. You sell your body to strangers and you are hurting yourself. If the man is married or in a committed relationship, he is risking hurting that person and himself by going outside the relationship to pay for sex. I think there is a world of hurt in the sex trade. How many of you men who believe in legalizing prostitution would marry a prostitute? How many of you men would be happy to share your wife with strange men? It may look like legalizing prostitution will get rid of everything bad that surrounds the sex trade, such as pimps, drugs, and all the dangers, but it will not. I do not feel it is right that a person has no other option but to sell their body to get by in the world.

Should we legalize prostitution? No.

Should we think about more effective ways to help these people into a safer environment? Yes.

Doubtful that you're even a woman. Get a life and enjoy the humor. What a dud! No one was serious here with this. What, did you have some bad experience yourself with the prostitution thing? Took your money? I know many a man that would marry a hooker. If you were really a woman then you would understand and not say that. You wouldn't say what a terrible trade it was and then ask THAT question. Aren't hookers in need of love, companionship, stability and security? Wouldn't this get them off the streets? All the things you claim to be championing. What a bag of hot wind.

Oh, and you make a critical comment responding to humor posted tongue-in-cheek ranting about "womans rights--self esteem" blah, blah, blah, and THEN you say nothing about the JigglyBoobiesBikini that KS is using!

Sure, you're a woman! NOT. You like THOSE--OR you would have made some comment about those. Would'nt you have J.? Caution--wearing undersized bra's may cause low blood flow to the brain.
