most of these kind of things on the internet are blarney , and some of the claims in these links are blarney , but some are not . [ the other parts of the links below not related to acetone .... are hard to believe to say the least.]
– but since I tried it in my audi and my wife's jetta , I find it is not blarney , I find little to no improvement in my turbo charged audi with hess hi test , the audi is used mostly for short trips and from one tank full to the next mileage normally varies 10 to 20% but I have discovered that Sunoco hi test consistently degrades my fuel mileage by over 10% with or without 2oz of acetone per 10 gallons , it “feels” better , one tank full [hess] produced a 30% gain ? with 2 oz per 10 gallons but only one and I don’t remember if I took a long drive on that tank full or not , [which would have accounted for a large part of the discrepency]
my wife's car is getting a slight but consistent improvement about 5% for 2oz of acetone per 10 gallons hess and mobil 87 octane , my dad’s camry has a gain of 10% with 3oz of acetone per 10 gallons of fuel mobil 87 octane . both are used around town and on the highway 50/50 .
my brother's acura integra lost a few percent when he added 2 oz acetone per 10 gallons , last I heard , but he was beginning his testing as the temperature dropped . mostly used as a commuter car on the highway . he has been in PR on business for a few weeks so his test results are on hold for a bit .
From my fuel mileage records last summer Sunoco hi test also degraded fuel mileage more than 10% ,[no acetone] , highway use , if nothing else keeping accurate mileage records including the brand of fuel used will identify what fuel is the most efficient in your car . it should be remembered winter blend and summer blend fuel is / are different , winter blend or lower ambient temperature seems to lower mileage around 10% across the board .
All acetone users except my wife state that the car “feels” smoother , my wife's jetta has 18k miles on the engine and is running so great anyway it may be hard to feel an improvement . fuel trim corrections on her car are all within 5% .
the audi and acura are pre obd2 and fuel trims are not availible , i have not connected the laptop to the camry ,yet to check scan data or fuel trim values . like an idiot i did not record baseline scan data or mode6 in the camry or jetta prior to the use of acetone mostly because i thought 1 or 2 tankfulls would show 0 improvement and that i would stop the use of acetone after that .
Do not exceed 3 oz of acetone per 10 gallons of fuel or .3 oz per gallon of fuel , use the fuel specified for your car , using hi test will not help a car designed for 87 octane and will in fact cause long term problems . using 87 in a car engineered for hi test should not save any thing as mr knock sensor will retard the timing enough to lower your fuel mileage and erase any monetary savings and the car will have less "power" . acetone may disolve the car's paint .
"I tried it in my audi and my wife's jetta, my brother's acura integra, my dad’s camry, what do you think about the concept here?" -- "Concept?" Let's go to War so your whole family can put a little more acetone in the little gas tanks of those foreign cars of yours to extend your mileage! WHO CARES? Here's a concept for you. This is a Blog site located in Lockport, NY, a G.M. parts town threatened with USA factory closure. Where're you writing from Tokyo or Frankfurt? Get THAT concept.
Please, Anon, give me a break...A lot of people drive foreign cars, some of the components are made here. To imply that someone is anti-American because they drive a foreign car is like saying you support communism because you eat at a Chinese buffet.I drive a foreign car because there's no way I could ever afford a new car, domestic or import. I happened across an import for $400. End of story. I can find used parts for virtually nothing, but it doesn't break very often. I support unions and try to buy American goods, when there is an actual profit margin involved for the American worker. It is not financially feasible for a lot of people to buy cars from dealerships, and to imply that import drivers are some sort of Nazis personally offends me.
If you are so big on the plight of the American worker, stay out of WalMart. They are taking jobs, shipping them overseas, and paying our citizens minimum wage to work in their stupid stores.
Don't get me wrong, I understand your frustration and stress with the Delphi situation, I'm sure alot of people here do. But to attack someone for offering what could be a helpful tip to save gas, when gas is almost three dollars a gallon is just silly.

You mean like the concept of Open Trade? Captialism? Free Market Economy? We make cars. Foreigners make cars. We're going to try to make money. They're going to try to make money. It's simple, and it's fair. Grow up.
As far as mileage goes, there is little advantage to adding acetone to an engine. For more noticeable results, read the owners manual to find out what kind of gasoline you should be putting in. Hi-test gasoline is generally meant for high-performance cars, not necessarily the luxury cars listed. That doesn't stop people from putting the 'better' gas in the tank.
Your engine has a computer built into it which controls how it burns and mixes fuel, which affects economy and mileage. Most consumer models are factory set to use 87 octane. If your putting higher grade gas than you need, you're not making your car run any better, you're just wasting octane.
I know no one wants to hear this, but the best way to save fuel is to drive slower.
