Mesi free to fight again!

Monday, December 19 2005

By Bob Caico

Judge Douglas Herndon today ruled that the NSAC cannot put heavyweight Baby Joe Mesi on permanent medical suspension and must lift the suspension as his license has expired. Now Mesi is free to apply for a license in any state and with any commission as long as he falls under the rules of that commission. Mesi's managar Jack Mesi told Fightnews last week that if they win the case Joe will go to a warm weather site and begin training immediately. "We are still undefeated and look forward to fighting for the Championship of the world," said Jack Mesi.

Boxing must be pretty important for him to risk his life.

Four different neurologists testified that Mesi was no longer in danger nor at increased risk of aggravating his head injury. Technically all boxers are risking their life when they step into the ring. It just a matter of degree of risk.

If he and his team feel he's not at risk, so be it. It's his decision.

So, would this turn of events make my autographed baby joe Glove worth more or less?

I dunno what I think about him fighting again. Yes, legally he can, and they say he's okay, but still. I think if I were him I would be kind of shellshocked, gunshy, afraid for my own well being.

I mean sure, I'm rooting for him, but I sure don't want him to end up getting really screwed up. But I can see it both ways, because obviously this is his passion...it is hard to have a passion you cannot realize, maybe even more difficult than throwing in the towel and retiring...then you always wonder "what if?"

I wonder if he and his lawyers are just setting the stage for a nice juicy lawsuit for the money he would have earned if he wasn't suspended.

Nah, too many variables to prove he would of survived more than a round with Tyson.
Should that fight of happened.

He would have easily beaten Tyson. I think Nevada Gaming should be held accountable.

After Tim McVeigh, John Bobbit and OJ Simpson, are people really this desparate for a local hero that they'll let a man commit suicide by stepping into the ring after professionals told him he'll die when he does? It's a biological certainty. Personally, I'm sick of hearing about him.

So don't open the Baby Joe post...now you know how tired we are of your Bush bashing. And Doctors never said he will die if he fights again. They said he has a slightly increased risk. I am a friend of Joe's and he wouldn't fight if he thought he was at risk. Look at Sugar Ray they said he would go blind if he ever fought again...and he fought and didn't go blind. I guess doctors can be wrong. Leon Spinks fought again in 2004 after a severe brain bleed. He's still alive and well.
